Legacy 100 was a first-of-its-kind training programme developed by Elecnor Australia to support the construction of EnergyConnect.
Over the course of the project, 100 participants were recruited and trained through a mix of classroom, online and on-the-job learning. Each participant worked towards a Certificate II in Transmission Line Construction (UET20422), gaining practical skills and experience in the field.
Participants learned to:
☑ operate 4WD vehicles
☑ work safely at heights
☑ perform rigging and dogging
☑ assemble and erect transmission structures
☑ install overhead transmission conductors
Training began with six weeks in Wagga Wagga, NSW, followed by hands-on experience along the 700-kilometre EnergyConnect alignment. The initiative was designed to meet local employment needs and provide enduring social benefit through skill development. Participants came from a range of backgrounds, both regional and national, and the program actively encouraged diversity, including First Nations and female candidates.
This skilled workforce continues to play a vital role in delivering one of Australia’s most significant energy infrastructure projects.
Career pathways beyond the EnergyConnect Legacy 100 programme
While construction on EnergyConnect is winding down, the skills gained through Legacy 100 continue to open doors. Participants are already applying their expertise to new challenges, helping build the next generation of energy infrastructure.
